Anabel Aportela is Director of Research & Evaluation for the Center for Student Achievement, located in Phoenix, Arizona. Anabel’s work in K-12 public education policy and research is focused on school finance, charter schools, school accountability, and data-driven decision- making. Her primary interest is in understanding the connection between resource allocation and student achievement.
Anabel has extensive experience working on state-level policy projects, including school finance projects in Arizona, Arkansas, Maine, North Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Prior to her work in school finance, Anabel spent seven years at the Arizona Department of Education where she was responsible for the analysis and reporting of student assessment and school accountability results. During this time, she developed the Arizona Measure of Academic Progress, the state’s first value-added approach to measuring student progress and also led the design of the state’s first school accountability system.
Anabel has a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as well as a M.A. in Education Policy and B.A. in Public Policy from Stanford University.
